Obsidian Frontier, Chapter 41: Back to the Bay

The long, exhausting journey to Blue and its environs is finally nearing its end. Our heroes succeeded in recovering the adventure journal of Hegil Tfinnan, Flan scholar and would-be adventurer. This journal — now haunted by Hegil’s ghost — details the final resting place of the Tomb of Telan, the legendary Flan hero who stood against an undead horde. The Ghostbane Scrolls of Ryda — which recount Telan’s heroics — are rumored to be held within the tomb.

The Blue expedition also saw Darogan Ferventfire secure the release of his mentor, Gremorly, from his indentured service to the wizard Xalbador Mathis.

The trip was not without its transformations. The gnome Burgell Nackle died on the journey but was reincarnated as a mountain dwarf thanks to the divine will of Norebo.

The heroes are now on their way back to Obsidian Bay. Read the saga.

Obsidian Frontier, Chapter 40: Hunting Party

Our heroes defeated the Queen in Silver — a vile undead creature with warlock-like powers — in her lair. In the process of doing so they rescued Dain Mollann, the son of Blue merchant lord Deran Mollann. The younger Mollan had been hunting big game in the southern hills and was captured by the Queen’s undead sons, the Red and Black Princes.

They also found a large fortune in treasure, which they intend to use to pay to Xalbador Mathis, leader of the Circle of Blue, in return for the release of Gremorly, a sage and Darogan Ferventfire’s master.

They are now preparing to return to Blue. Read the saga.

Obsidian Frontier, Chapter 39: The Crypt of the Queen in Silver, Part 2

The heroes have entered Crypt of the Queen in Silver looking for a legendary treasure. Their hope is that the hoard will be sufficient to pay off the ransom of the sage Gremorly, master of Darogan. The historian is being held by Xalbadtor Mathis, leader of the Circle of Blue.

During their initial foray they encountered the foul Black Prince, an undead creature with warlock-like powers, as well as several “lich hounds” that nearly slaughtered the party. The heroes defeated the prince and are now preparing to venture deeper into the crypt.

Obsidian Frontier, Chapter 38: The Crypt of the Queen in Silver, Part 1

Concerned about the fate of his mentor, Gremorly, Daragon and his companions set out to learn as much as they could about the Circle of Blue and the sage’s captor, Xalbadtor Mathis.

They learned that Gremorly was being held in a tower on Xalbadtor’s estate, and that it was well protected by abjuration magic. They also learned that Xal’s patience with scholarly Gremorly was reaching an end because the sage was unable to tell him anything profitable. They also learned that Xalbadtor, although a powerful wizard and the leader of the Circle of Blue, was living a life style that was breaking his budget. He needed an influx of money … and fast.

Darogan arranged a meeting with Xalbadtor at the The Crowned Caravel and learned that Xal would agree to ransom the scholar for 25,000 gp. Shocked by the price, Darogan nonetheless agreed. He was forearmed with several ways of raising those funds, thanks to reseach gleaned from **Hegil Tfinnan**. In his quest to find the lost Tomb of Telan, Hegil — now a ghost haunting his own adventuring journal — identified a number of other ruins, tombs, and crypts that could be hold impressive riches:

Given that the Scorpion Prince’s tomb held an ancient evil that shouldn’t be unleashed, and the Apature of Zalshox was ruled by a beholder outcast from the City of Eyes, the heroes wisely settled on investigating the Crypt of the Queen in Silver.

Obsidian Frontier, Chapter 37: Another Day in Blue

After securing the expedition notes that Hegil Tfinnan had accumulated in order to seek out the Ghostbane Scrolls, our heroes headed toward Blue on Readying 17, CY 516. A chance encounter with an orc warband heading caused the death of the gnome Burgell (as well as the orcs). The heroes hastened on to the city, where a friendly gate guard pointed them toward Sirdan, a drunken priest of Norbo, god of chance. For a pile of gold and a few bottles of wine, Sirdan agreed to reincarnate Burgell, who returned to this world as a dwarf on Readying 18.

Sirdan also agreed to setup a meeting between Darogan and Frennie Two Knives, a fence/informant/know-it-all in the city who could tell him about the fate of the Knight of the Book’s master, Gremorly. It is now the evening of Readying 18. Darogan and a few of his allies are about to meet the rogue at the The Dead Bird Alehouse.
